if you've never done this at all, then you're chewing off way too much to say "I will do the port".
Rather, find a single bug in a single driver and fix it. What we really need AFAIK is video. There is video driver in u-boot. So one suggestion is to port the U-boot video driver to Plan 9. I think that is doable.
