Awww, found the source of the problem and it had nothing to do with
planner-mode.

Seems like the new version of Emacs broke icicle-mode which I was
using along with planner. Will instead file a bugreport to the
icicle-maintainer.

Lesson learned, should have tried reproducing the problem with emacs -q....

You mean recompile planner, even if I only upgraded Emacs at that
time? When I looked I found the planner files were not compiled (no
*.elc files in sight, only *.el).

Or do I have to compile anything in Emacs?

I am using the latest planner tarball as of 2006-06-18.

Everything else seems to work ok (M-x plan etc...) I just can't create
tasks anymore (see error above).

Strange...
