I don't use planner any more (why am I still on this mailing list, I hear you
ask!). When I did, though, unison solved all my problems. It works well with
most things. Planner is slightly more hassle than other applications since it
changes so many files -- you have to be careful about running unison at the
right time, of you get conflicts (you never loose things, but you have to
resolve conflicts by hand). 

Unison uses the rsync algorithm so it's low bandwidth. It's safe so it never
deletes things it shouldn't. I use it on my about 1/2 of my home directory,
between 2 operating systems and, well, 4 or 5 machines. If they ever stop
maintaining, I will have to retire, or become a hermit, as my (working) life
will be over.
