Yes, he is right.
But did you figure a satisfying answer to the "why can't this just...
work?" that would be a sustainable solution without inferring
extra-cost/effort for the current SWT/GTK contributors who feel they have
other priorities tasks than fixing it?
If supporting extra themes continuously requires more work, then those who
feel a deep need for them need to continuously provide some more workforce;
there is realistically no other way round. If a sustainable solution is
possible, then this solution needs also some extra-workforce to be
implemented.
The idea is not about dropping the idea of improving GTK theme support,
it's just to make it clear, honest and explicit to adopters that the
project cannot commit to better support than recent GTK with Adwaita at the
moment. Hopefully this would change in the future with technical
improvements and more contributions, but it's too unsure to pretend it in
this document.
