I haven't looked at the code for VNC (I'm not much of a coder yet...) but it
seems like VNC depends on a video driver to work. For example, I tried using
it with just the base VGA driver, and the server gave me errors when I tried
to connect (something about it not being chunk...I'll have to check it
again, it's been months). Also, I had hoped to use VNC on this same computer
to bypass a vid card with dying video memory that was making the display
almost unusable with artifact lines and garbage, and the garbage showed up
on the VNC window as well. So, it makes me wonder if VNC copies the video
buffer or something of the like, directly from the card.
Like I said though, I'm much more a power user than a coder, but this is
what I could divine from using it :)
