The simplest way to support all new graphics cards, advances (???) in
DirectX, hardware acceleration and all those good things, as well as get
Windoze up and running (graphically, at least) is to double-head. The more I
think about this, the more I think that it would be a very good first-step.
As the win OS would have exclusive use of an adapter, there would be no need
to emulate anything. All that would be needed would be to hide the Host
adapter from Win and the Guest adapter from the host. This would work with
any well-behaved adapter (note - some display adapters are NOT well-behaved)
and should be really quick. I would recommend starting with 3dfx or Matrox
to start, as I'm fairly sure these cards behave themselves.
I should have a suitable system at home fairly soon, and I have a fair idea
of what needs doing and how to do it, or at least where to find out, so I
guess I'm a natural to give it a whirl.
This isn't the only good solution, or the best for all but it looks like a
good place to start and probably a damn fine approach for dedicated games
players. Is anyone interested in collaborating?
Cheers, Colin
