Hi Werner:

I have completed my logo efforts. To see how to create the logo please read
examples/python/README.logo. The compressed svg result looks outstanding and
is a fairly reasonable size (100K which will get substantially smaller if
Hazen can figure out how to get rid of the graphical objects that are
carried along in that file that are outside of the device limits).
Additional prospects for reducing the size still further are discussed in
README.logo.

Unfortunately, compressed svg results are not standard (they don't validate)
and are therefore probably only recognized by Linux viewers/editors. Also,
the uncompressed svg results are currently too large. So as a compromise
until we can take the measures discussed in README.logo to reduce the svg
file size to a reasonable value, I converted the result from svg to jpeg and
stored it in www/img/plplot_logo.jpeg. As you can see for yourself,
plplot_logo.jpeg has a slightly smaller (34K) filesize than the (42K)
filesize of header.jpg file (the original logo-like image file created by
you with methods which you haven't documented yet). plplot_logo.jpeg also
has the same graphical quality as header.jpg, and in addition has a legend
superimposed on the background plot. So plplot_logo.jpeg is obviously good
enough for a logo now, but it frankly does not look as good as the
equivalent *.svgz or *.svg results so the measures discussed in README.logo
to reduce the *.svg file size to a reasonable size without compromising its
graphical quality are worth implementing.

My next step is to finish the liquid layout style for our website. Some
like the liquid layout style which tends to be recommended by CSS
enthusiasts but others prefer a fixed style like we presently have.
Therefore, do you know how to change our website so users can easily choose
either the fixed or liquid layout CSS style using their browser menu choice
for CSS style? For example, under firefox if you follow view==>page style
there is currently a menu for two page styles (none and basic) for
plplot.sf.net, and I would like to expand that user choice to none, basic
(the current fixed style), and the liquid style. Do you know what php
changes have to be done to set up that choice assuming the current fixed
style file, css/style.css, will continue to have the same name, and the
liquid style file will be called css/liquid_layout_style.css?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give on setting up CSS alternatives
for the user.

Alan
