Hi Phil: Please hold off until I have time to consider this. It has been quite a while so I don't remember details, but I had what I felt were good reasons for using the fuzzy logic way back when so let me try to resurrect those reasons from discussion on the plplot-devel list at the time and from my commit messages in that era, and then look carefully at your arguments in light of those reasons.
