actually I installed all QT dev libraries only to realize that ubuntu packs plplot-driver-qt. I just installed this package after installing the QT dev libs and it works. I have implemented your pslmema solution and it works. Now I really can't wait to profile and see how fast it is, but Ii estimate it's about 50% faster than matplotlib.
