Well, here it is, in it's first public alpha release.
The Plucker Email Reflector (pler for short, a play on words) is a
tool that lets you use Plucker through email, with no need to install any
Plucker components on your system at all (other than the Palm-side viewer
application, of course).
I need some people to test this, and run it through its paces.
I've done a lot of work to make sure that it responds to error conditions
and other bad data as best as possible, but I may have missed one thing or
another, so please let me know if you find something I overlooked.
To use pler, simply send a blank email to the following address:
Plucker Email Reflector <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
..with the word 'help' in the subject of the message. The system
will respond to that request for help with a full description of the use of
pler, and include three sample templates in a .zip file that you can edit
and send to the pler application.
Once the system receives your template, it will parse the data you
specified in the template, and return to you a Plucker .pdb that matches the
parameters you've specified in the template, attached via email, along with
a plucker.ini and home.html file customized with your parameters that you
can continue to use to pluck it on your own, from your own system.
There are some new features coming in the next release but I wanted
to get this out there for a few days and get some people testing the code,
to see if I included any weird buglets.
If you find bugs, reply to me _directly_ please, so I can address
them immediately.
It supports the current elements in the standard plucker.ini file,
with the exception of the Windows-specific values that control the Plucker
Desktop application itself. This is meant to be a cross-platform tool, and
caters to no particular OS.
New features coming in the next release will include:
1. Seamless conversion of Microsoft Word and PDF documents, either
pointed to in the home_url field, or attached to the incoming
message.
2. Parsing of attached plucker.ini files. Currently the template
must be included in the body of the message. The next version
will allow you to attach your plucker.ini to the message and use
that method instead.
3. Exclusion lists are not currently supported, but will be in the
next version.
Enjoy, and don't forget to help support the Plucker project!
