Ok. I checked, and the box has serveral different version installed,
all with their own bin's & lib's: 2.0, 2.2, 2.3. I tried each one
(modifying the shebang for the bin's, eg /usr/pkg/bin/python2.2), and
all of them had the exact same problem.

But you're saying it's _definitely_ a python installation problem?
Then I need to contact the admin. The 2.3 install is new (there's
other members who were just recently asking for it), so maybe there's
something wrong with it?
