Thanks Alex and Brien: I will try the rename suggestion.
In .mozilla, I found 24882 pending crash reports dating back to March 2013, about 24000 of them from two days in April 2015. Surely there cannot be any good reason or benefit in cluttering up the system with all these ancient crash reports. Is there any good reason not to delete all of that more than a year-old garbage?
