I believe the pricing for Extreme switches is pretty good. We're using one
of them in our NOC. It can switch 18 million pps and has a bunch of
gigabit ports. Cisco does have an equivalent model, but the prices are
horrendous. So for an exterprise setting, you might want to check out
Extreme. Moscom has been using one for quite a while now (>1 year? not
sure) and it hasn't done anything evil.. oh and it's a layer 3 switch if
I'm not mistaken. They probably have better models now.
