hi jijo,

i just attended a seminar sponsored by ATI about their Equinox line of 
superserial devices. there is one that says that you can connect up to 128 
serial devices (in their complete workgroup solutions) and the brochure 
says that it works with linux.

maybe you could check it out. this are their numbers.
