You can try the binary kernel-smp RPM found in RedHat site. I haven't
tried it, since I always go for the kernel source and compile with SMP
support. And I only had success with SMP for a newly installed RedHat,
porting_the_kernel_image/recompiling_the_kernel_source to a separate
machine with the same hardware specs, gets me to the login prompt then hangs.
