Hi, Jerome,

Thanks for the pointers.  I was working on two computers.  One had an i810, as you guessed.  The other had a VIA.  I got the i810 resolution working, but the VIA is still a little crappy (800x600 at depth 16, 1024x768 at depth 8).

Glad to hear it's been fixed for the i810 by 5.10.  Can't wait to try it.

Agree with you on the ease of enabling acceleration.  Ubuntu is easier than SuSE or even Fedora. However, if a newbie were to hit the snag with the resolution, it's already a disincentive to go on with acceleration.

What is the chipset of the board? If you installed 5.04 with i810,
you'll definitely have issues with X.org (fixed for 5.10)

3D acceleration is not that much of a issue because ubuntu has the
non-free nvidia-glx and flglx drivers. I can actually run
graphics-intensive games like Far Cry in Cedega with minimal issues.
Desktops won't have much of a problem, but laptops will have issues
especially with the non-free drivers when resuming form a
hibernate/suspend stated.

Ahh that is a problem indeed.
