In addition to the other posts, the setup requires a specialized kernel. You need to patch your kernel with ruby (or bruby for 2.4 kernel) for it to respond to multiple input and output. The plain vanilla kernel is configured to talk to only one set of keyboard and mouse.

We've been trying set-up systems like that with Suse 9.3 but we encountered problems kdm. Seems like Suse changed alot from KDE.

A single-CPU multi-user setup using multiple video cards and USB
keyboards and mouses can definitely be implemented using generic
off-the-shelf commodity hardware and your GNU/Linux distribution of
choice.

You don't need any special software. A setup like this involves running
one separate instance of the X server per terminal. Each X server
instance will have its own configuration file that tells it which video
card, keyboard and mouse are assigned to it.

Of course you'll need enough CPU and memory to support your concurrent
users, but other than that, it shouldn't be too difficult to implement.
