hi guys,
what are the major difference of IDE and SATA regarding
installation, performance and quality for linux servers.im still
thinking if ill go with the old IDE interface for my hard drives of
the new SATA. i havent configured or installed any SATA devices with
linux, are they same in terms of installation?
SATA support for Linux is still maturing. There are some chipsets
(e.g. NForce4) which still doesn't have decent SATA support in Linux.
NCQ etc have also yet to mature. If you're going to have them placed
in a RAID configuration, you can go for hardware RAID solutions (a
good list of compatible cards can be found online) or Linux's much
faster software RAID.
