if i were in your shoes i would save whatever config i can, break up the modem
manual and figure out how to access whatever configuration management facility
that appliance has and set only allow traffic coming from a certain ip (your
proxy/gateway server) to access the wild, wild internet. you can then
filter/balance the outgoing traffic from your LAN.
problem is what you will do until you get your server back up? can you cut off
the other users while you dont have a proxy/gateway server? i dont know about
the speedtouch but my wireless switch/router can block off some ports (which by
default it already does).
just throwing in some ideas... :)
ciao!
