i must add... wifi 802.11a/b/g is notoriously unreliable due to the aggressive DSSS modulation. the FHSS schemes usually are far slower (sub-1Mbit vs tens of Mbits) which makes them significantly more interference- and noise-immune.

so it might make sense that the sucky smart users are using the older equipment (probably from old meridian stock, since meridian had no money and so had to settle for cheapo taiwanese gear).

it seems that the motorola equipment is fairly new, so it's entirely possible that older deployments (or, provincial deployments) have the old gear.
