Even with a UPS, as long as there's a human that trips the power cord,
or your system gets a huge power surge, your data ain't safe at all... I
guess we still have humans running servers...

Haven't had that problem for a very long time (like years already). Then
again I'm quite lucky to be very picky on hardware combinations...

The one thing that still annoys me to this day though is that power
management support for SATA still sucks in Linux. This makes suspend to
a SATA disk a lesson in data juggling for mobile users.

Then again, the ATA driver of Linux is yet to undergo another change,
courtesy of the libata integration in the kernel. At the very least
though, you won't need to worry about {hs}d* in the future...

for those cases there's dmraid, but linux software raid does work
faster. nonetheless the situation does suck. the situation is to improve
in time though.
