sorry and no offense to our fellow BSD users (i'am forced to say this)
but based on your earlier post, it's quite obvious that you're still new
to the concept of Fake RAID drivers and the difference on the way it
is encapsulated into the BSD and Linux kernels. that's why i kept on
asking you for the chipsets so that i can __help__you__to__clear_
_things__up__ and you still don't bother to even post the info of your
SATA RAID controllers nor probe your PCI devices and just keep
throwing those _vague_ statements.

please, do take some time first on studying BOTH BSD and Linux
device internals and their list of supported devices before making
those kind of statements that is starting to sound _hillarious_. but
if you really want this to ensue, then so be it and let's hit the 100
mark for this thread. :)

in fairness to the Linux kernel (v2.6), it also have its __own__ set of
drivers specific to the LSI (and its former brand, AMI) and even to its
set of FakeRAID devices some of which are using a different set of
chipsets.

again (i'm begging you), just don't compare if you _really_ don't
understand both. otherwise, just ask .

*darn, i'm starting to sound that i'm going to hit 30. =D

I believe the FAQ is referring to unsupported or should I say exotic
SATA-RAID controller, I'm using LSI SATA-RAID and it reads from dmesg
as ami0 driver, but if you try to install CentOS-4 on this box, you'll
never see such native driver for this. And even if you software raid
this in CentOS, you'll still going have a such PITA just to boot strap
the box.

My 2 cents still goes to BSD.

Oh really? And why is linux still accept LSI as FakeRAID and OpenBSD
doesn't?

maybe you should also read ami(4) man page and that faq again. there are
certain what you called fakeraid (sata raid) that are very well supported
by openbsd (e.g. ami). and that software raid support you have just said
IS NOT INCLUDED on the base (GENERIC) kernel. again, i stand on what i've
said before - if its half-baked driver then 1.) disable it from the base
kernel, or 2.) remove it.
