maybe its not the firewall,

maybe MySQL server is listens only to localhost, open the configuration
file(my.cnf) and look for "bind-address=127.0.0.1"  and put a remark. I
usually find this option whenever I get MySQL from xAMP package.

another, maybe the user that you have created also listens only to
localhost. ex. 'user'@'localhost'
