it is called high availability clustering. And yes, Linux is the

tnx for the info. my design would be like this.

                                                                |----------- 
10.10.10.2 (Server 1active)
VIP (running the service) 10.10.10.4 |
                                                                |----------- 
10.10.10.3 (Server 2 backup)

So all my clients will connect to the VIP and the service will connect to the 
Active server and if let say active server is down the service will 
automatically switch to the backup server, without changing any ip address on 
the clients. no need for loadbalancing, just for us to have redundancy.
