wait a minute, what does Gurango have to do with FOSS & PLUG?
There are better example of successful local people in FOSS...

Probably the best Open Source portfolio would be Butch Landingin, now the CTO
of Orange&Bronze. I remember some posts from him regarding Python, Zope and
Squishdot and this was way back 2000(?)

Another success for me would be Gerard Paul Java (IPTRAF). I had a chance to
see his IPTRAF presentation when we held LinuxWorld at Cebu 2001(?)

Maybe someone in this mailing list can interview these guys and see how
FOSS helped (hindered?) their careers. This would make a great piece (maybe
even a short documentary...hint, hint). I also wonder why these 2 people don't
have blogs....maybe they spend their time writing code?

And may I quote from Gerard's page on http://iptraf.seul.org/

"....(I still have a day job, y'know :) I'm afraid IPTraf doesn't put food
on my table, heh heh)....."

I wish I have the economic freedom to write FOSS code, so difficult in the
Phils,
specially when raising a family...(sigh)

The rest did it in the US.
I thought Gurango's story was fully based in the Philippines, but I
 found this story:
 http://www.teamasia.com/Media/2002/pn10292002.htm

There is somebody in this list who is a developer for his company until he
shifted to the dark side.

I don't think the computers will take over the world. I have a bucket of water.
