i've got an old ecs ez30 tablet pc with 800mhz processor (transmeta
crusoe), 256mb memory, and 40gb harddisk. i use it as normal pc, so i
dont bother w/ pen.

i installed xubuntu 8.04, but i noticed that every time i got to X i
looses virtual consoles. CRTL+ALT+F1 to F6 are now black screen.

i tried disabling /etc/init.d/gdm and reboooted. i now have vc1 to vc6
available, but when i started xfce (startxfce4), all VCs gone again.
pressing CRTL+ALT+F1 (to F6) shows only black screen without blinking
cursor.

how do i get back those VCs while at the same time on xfce?

also, when i am in X, the pc is very slow. i tried setting performance
level to 100% and disabled LTX (via longrun utility), but the speed is
far behind windows XP. i can run openoffice 2.4 under XP just fine and
it is still snappy, pero under linux... whew, siguro 7 minutes na di
pa kumpleto screen. at di na gumagalaw mouse pointer ko.

tanong ko lang. bibilis kaya pag nirecompile ko kernel for crusoe
processor? what about exisitng kernel modules from ubuntu repo, will
it work with the newly compiled kenrel?

on my limited searching, accroding to google/internet, crusoe is
128-bit processor with dynamic translator for x86 instructions so that
normal pc-based OS can load. i dont know if this 800mhz speed is
comparable to the native i686 (pentium2?) or even i586 800mhz (if
there is) processors. why is windowxp responsive but ubuntu is
lagging?

thanks.
