And yet IBM doesn't want to buy Sun to save it from impending doom... after IBM themselves have profited handsomely from Java and usurped Java standards (e.g. Eclipse vs. Swing) Where's the soul in that? :-) > But my original statement about Sun and IBM, on the one hand, > and Microsoft and Oracle on the other, holds water, and I believe, > is a reflection on the difference in the corporate "souls" of > these two groups. IBM went from being the stodgiest company around to adopting Linux and the open source mantra because they couldn't see any other way to compete with NT. Anybody ever remember AIX ? It was a smart move but provoked by the desire to survive and not out of any "goodness of the soul". See http://www.google.com/search?q=ibm+jews+hitler Microsoft, as of late, is also starting to "get" open source. Everyone assumes they're too "evil" to do that, but the reality is that their FUD against open source has fallen on deaf ears. They have seen the handwriting on the wall and are finally deciding to get real. The marketplace is a great disciplinarian. ;-) ================================ The Webmechs Webpress Blog http://www.webmechs.com/webpress _________________________________________________ Philippine Linux Users' Group (PLUG) Mailing List http://lists.linux.org.ph/mailman/listinfo/plug Searchable Archives: http://archives.free.net.ph
