I've previous experience of similar nature though not with a networking
appliance but with a home appliance (TV), the picture tube had a lifetime
warranty but after 3 years it broke so when I took it to the authorized
repair shop I was told that the product has reached EOL already and that
they don't have spare for the busted picture tube and the best thing that
they can do is make a refund for the current market value, of course I did
not settle and I called the head office to escalate the issue and told them
the whole story, so to make the long story short, my busted TV was replaced
with a brand new unit (new model).
