I think that is more a row-first vs column-first distinction than a
straight vs crossover (null) distinction.  Crossover wiring in my
experience is much more complex than that (although my recent work has
been on simple 3-wire serial that doesn't involve hardware
handshaking, and is consequentially much simpler).

Everytime I read the product description on that thing I am stunned
that they haven't been arrested for fraud.  It certainly reduces my
interest in becoming an "audio enthusiast"!
