i would make all the same statements about virtualbox, except hey,
free & open source.

i've never used vmware, though, so i don't know which is better.  but
i'd say both work.  i do know a fair amount about the vmware suite's
featureset, and based on that i'd say vmware is incredibly well suited
to enterprise-level complex stuff.  but i've used virtualbox for
migration over the network and it has worked, so it's not exactly
hobbyist-level-only either.
