   A) The network is present: the Sony gets an IP address and gateway from
the WAP and the Dell connects just fine.

   B) Why ntpd is involved I've no idea, but it is. And when ntpd on the Dell
finds the connection to the WAP it shuts down eth0.

   C) The question, regardless of the purpose of ntpd being invoked, is why
it is not invoked on the Sony.
