I just looked up the discussion from November, 2010. The projector is a
Hitachi CP-SX1350. The original MSRP was $15,000! Details are here:

http://www.projectorcentral.com/Hitachi-CP-SX1350.htm

After looking at the above page I'm not sure if it has an HDMI input. I
do know that its native resolution (what it projects) is 1400 x 1050,
and it will accept input up to 1600 x 1200. When I connected my laptop
to it directly with a VGA cable xrandr immediately noted that a monitor
at 1400 x 1050 was available.
