This gets confusing when looking for help from a search engine as they typically give a response suitable for Windows users. However, as far as how many messages are displayed, in my Thunderbird I have the folders list on the left then a split window with the message list on the top and the "Message Pane" on the bottom. You can enable/disable the Message Pane with F8. You can adjust the size of the message pane, which determines how many messages are shown in the list simply by putting your mouse over the division between the message list and the Message Pane and dragging it up or down as desired. As far as changing the over all layout options, View>Layout gives you a variety of options to choose from. HTH, Michael
