If you got a CD-ROM drive and a Real Computer(tm), then that's all the
hardware you need. The only free software (sort of) VCD player I could
find that worked (sort of too) was MpegOrion (http://www.creworion.net/).
It uses Qt, sadly, and is under QPL. The SMPEG plugin for xmms is also
supposed to allow you to play VCD's, but when I tried it yesterday it
crashed without warning. Maybe you'll be more lucky. In any case, both
of them use the only freely-available MPEG decoder which has sound, SMPEG,
and the SDL library upon which it depends.
