I think it was  your posts I was thinking of...

Any cool ways of getting yourself the IP address?  I've thought of using
a freebie web site  (provided by my ISP)  and ncftpput to automatically
post the number to a page when I go on-line ...or email...or one of the
ICQ-like programs.

I checked out using ICQ a long time ago and didn't like  it because you
often have to go to a server somewhere far away even if the link your
trying to establish is local to your ISP...

OTOH, posting the address to a web site has the disadvantages of being a
bit more public then you may want ) and if you lose the link before
tearing down that page it leaves the wrong address posted until you change
it.

Ideas anyone?
