PHP4 does not seem to be able to handle php3 code. The INSTALL
file in PHP4 talks of how to build PHP4 and PHP3 as dso modules into
the same Apache server, but this is too much of a hassle. Besides
for security reasons I like to build PHP statically into Apache and
not as loadable module, so (PHP4+3)dso+Apache is out of the question
for me.
For the moment, I have PHP4 for personal use (so I can study the
beautiful "Core PHP" book. But for our school's IMP server, we run
PHP3 (to be upgraded to 3.0.16).
