Aye. I think that if the younger folk took the reins, with the old timers
providing guidance and advice, that might work.

One of the things PLUG should probably do is to make the barriers to level
of entry a bit lower. I don't know how young our fledgeling hackers are
these days, but I would venture to say as early as grade school, based on
personal experience and observation. Now, the membership should be kind to
the newbies lest we eat our own young. If there's anything that increases
mortality and attrition rates, we should strive to minimize that. Perhaps
we should have a plug newbie mailing list for high noise to signal ratios.
This is to spare us cranky, caffeine-overdosed, sleep-deprived oldbies
from the agony of wading through countless pleas for help at beginner
level, but still allow for a general newbie friendly atmosphere where
practically anything goes. I know, I know, we aren't really cranky on the
mailing list, but I think that our membership is comprised mainly of
college students at the least, and a significant number of professionals
and educators. So the newbie might feel terribly out of place here.
As to PR... can our propaganda cadre come up with PLUG banner ads to post
on websites to link to our PLUG website? ;)
p.s. If the list hosts are amenable, I move to create a ph-linux-newbie
mailing list. (should we follow Usenet tradition in creating such a list?)
