I agree with Ian.
I'm using Amavis-0.2.0-pre6 and it works fine. To update you only need to download the 
unix distro of the dat files (and that's free! from nai). And put the *.dat files to 
/sbin
(btw, RH6.1).
I hope that helps.

BTW, how will you know or monitor it's being CPU and resource intensive?
