I suggest the Linux Complete (Sybex). It presents the topic quite clearly
and it is cheap (395.00 Php). This thing is seasonal coz it is very cheap
(compared to others). It can be found in all Natinal Bookstore Brances.
It tackles KDE and Gnome window manager. There are Networking How-Tos
included. One thing I like about the book is that it covers the older
kernels. Thus, there are instruction how to compile the kernel to add other
services. It also discusses the basic of networking (quite important for
networking newbies also) using Linux. It think it will fit the newbies (like
me) since the presentation is very simple.
The other one I read is Mastering Red Hat Linux 6.0 (Sybex?). It costs
795.00 Php. It is more comprehensive than the first book I mentioned. It has
more pictures also, thus very easy to understand. I found this in Data Blitz
in Park Square 1, Makati.

Greetingks fellow penguin lovers,
As a service for newbies to Linux, I thought it might be a good idea to
compile a short list of introductory books on Linux for the complete
newbie along with brief summaries or reviews of the books. Note that the
list is intended for beginners and not veterans like yourself. Most
importantly, information about availability of the book (where can it be
found) and how much it costs in pesos would definitely be most helpful.
I'd have wanted to review Running Linux (3rd ed.) but I don't have that. I
can't seem to find my old copy either. :>
While we're at it, a book list for intermediate and advanced Linux users
might also be helpful. I look forward to hearing from you and your
suggestions for the book list. I'll eventually put the lists up on a
webpage or maybe we'll have it on the plug website. :)
