hi,

maybe this link can help:

This is a common problem. The /boot partition, the section which
contains the kernel and associated files, must be entirely under
1024.

If you don't want to partition you can rely on a boot floppy disk
for booting linux. This way you wouldn't have to repartition.

A boot floppy disk for Linux contains a copy of the Linux kernel
so you don't have to rely on LILO for loading the kernel. Once
the Linux kernel is loaded the 1024 problem goes away.

This problem only exists because LILO must use BIOS to find the
kernel.

Some more information about this problem can be found at
    http://sdb.suse.de/sdb/en/html/1024_Zylinder.html

How to make a boot/root floppy can be found at
http://www.infocom.cqu.edu.au/Units/aut2000/85321/Resources/LDP/HOWTO/Bootdisk-
HOWTO.html

or by doing
    man mkbootdisk
on your Redhat Linux system.
