The RSS is what I look at too. But it can be misleading, because mmap()'ed
memory is included in the RSS.
For example if a process mmap()'s a 200MB file into its process space (for
more efficient I/O) that 200MB will show up in the RSS. Also if a program
like the Xserver mmap()'s the 32MB video RAM into itself, that will show
up in the RSS.
