This is a cool project. However, a non-technical solution to this problem may discourage you. Refurbished HP/IBM/Compaq/Dell PCs are selling for below $300 at HMR. Last time I checked (early January), a PII-400/64MB/40X CD-ROM/SVGA monitor/10GB HDD costs PhP 12,500. Altough these PCs are far from being an "appliance", they're dirt-cheap, and quite capable.
