You don't need a VPN to do this. If you're using Netscape Messenger 7.0 and its POP3/SSL features, all you need to do is set up a program like qpopper to use SSL to allow your people to get their mails. Now, if you also want their outgoing mail to be encrypted, using your mail server, you're going to have to use SMTP auth with SSL. I don't know how extensive support for this feature is, though, but on the server side I do know that at least Postfix provides for it (probably all of the other widely-used MTA's also do). The client side is what I'd be worried about. This is the exact system we use for Imperium's corporate mail servers. Heck, it even works fine when they use Outlook. -- Rafael R.
