The only thing similar among all these unices is the presence of /etc/inittab. After that, it is all confusion. Some unices have the actual scripts in /etc/init.d but some have it in /etc/rc.d/init.d, and some have it elsewhere. Run-level based links to the scripts are also in differing locations. Where the configuration data are stored is also non standard. System V init just gives guidelines, but the distro makers have lots of freedom in putting things where they want them, resulting in system administration nightmare for sysads who have to maintain unices from different vendors.
