I remember MS-Word when it wasn't yet bloated and unstable. The last
version that I remember qualifying was 5.1a for MacOS, and 2.0b for
MS-Windows 3.x.

I still enjoy running MacWord 5.1a in the Ardi Executor MacOS-emulation
environment on my Sony VAIO that runs Debian. It was an excellent
word processor, and people really stare when they see a Microsoft
applications for MacOS running on an x86 Linux laptop.

Too bad what they did with MS-Word and MS-Excel after that. I wouldn't
touch subsequent versions with a sharp stick -- and that's not to
mention the design horror and security disasters that are MS-Outlook and
MS-Outlook Express, the data-integrity risk that is MS-Access, the
useless data bloat that is MS-PowerPoint, and that generator of
horrifically bad HTML, MS-Front Page.

And the mind scarce has the courage to contemplate what they would do
with an entire Linux distribution.

Personally, I'm looking forward to the eventual re-release under the GPL
of the Gobe Productive office suite from FreeRadicalSoftware, Inc. See:
