Speaking of, I find myself lacking in database theory know-how. I really found it so boring back in college, but it's essential now.
What are good courses that teach how to design tables and queries... not things you can learn in the manuals like how to start your db engine. :)
Aside from Oracle-specific training, I've never taken a DB course that I found useful. I do have a couple of books that are pretty good, though. "Practical SQL Handbook" by Bowman gives a fast intro to SQL and queries, while Joe Celko's "SQL for Smarties" and "SQL Puzzles and Answers" have mind-boggling examples of real-world SQL.
Migs, if you're still in Orient Sq., I can lend you the books for a couple of days.
