You have to setup at least three configuration files in the /etc/ppp directory. They are options, options.ttySX and pap-secrets. The pap-secrets file will be the basis for authentication.
I believe the options.ttyS0 file should only contain the IP of the server and the IP it will give the dialer. They are seperated by a colon in a line. This is my mgetty login.config file. The "ktune" option is for forwarding. You can already remove the "auth" line in your /etc/ppp/options file because this is already invoked in mgetty. /AutoPPP/ - a_ppp /usr/sbin/pppd auth -chap +pap debug ktune This is my pap-secrets file: #client server secret IP Address mikel mystique "" 192.168.0.31 You can use the /etc/passwd file for authentication by indicating a user name from /etc/passwd and "" under secret. Or simply choose any name under client and supply a password under secret. Be sure the pap-secrets file is not world readable if you do this. I'm using Red Hat 8.0, ppp, mgetty and a Dlink Webcruiser to dialin.
