It takes a bit of learning (depends on your programming background), and
the Flash creator program costs some money.  But for a large project it
might be worth it.  If you're going to deliver apps over the web, and
you need really fine control of the user interface, then you have to
choose between javascript, java, and flash.  If you can do it in
javascript, then that's obviously best.  But barring that, I'd probably
go with flash before java.

Here's a good example of an ecommerce site.  I strongly suggest against
doing this if you're going to create an ecommerce site, or any public
site.  I only condone using flash if you're going to have an in-house
app for a captive audience.
