The BIOS does not have to be updated to Linux.  When Linux boots,
it just uses to BIOS to check what peripherals are available, but
Linux installs its own (appropriate 32/64-bit) drivers.  Linux
does not use BIOS, because it has its own "kernel" mode drivers
to do I/O.
