The BIOS does not have to be updated to Linux.  When Linux boots,
it just uses to BIOS to check what peripherals are available, but
Linux installs its own (appropriate 32/64-bit) drivers.  Linux
does not use BIOS, because it has its own "kernel" mode drivers
to do I/O.

That is true but what if there will be new BIOS version to fix a bug in APM/APCI, Processor power managent, etc.?
I think it is possible to use FreeDOS to run the DOS flash utility ...... I have not tested this yet :-\

I don't know about the A530 but all the Desknote that we bought comes > with
Thizlinux.

Who is your supplier/Merchant? Some merchants here sell it bare w/ no linux disk.... With some, I did not ask....


We are currently using the Debian & Slackware Distro.... O:-)
